چکیده

In this paper we present an e cient image based rendering system that renders multiple frames per second on a PC. Our method performs warping from an intermediate representation called a layered depth image (LDI). An LDI is a view of the scene from a single input camera view, but with multiple pixels along each line of sight. When n input images are preprocessed to create a single LDI, the size of the representation grows linearly only with the observed depth complexity in the n images, instead of linearly with n. Moreover, because the LDI data are represented in a single image coordinate system, McMillan's warp ordering algorithm can be successfully adapted. As a result, pixels are drawn in the output image in back to front order. No z-bu er is required, so alpha-compositing can be done e ciently without depth sorting. This makes splatting an e cient solution to the resampling problem.

Layered lumigraph with LOD control

The rendering performance of an image-based rendering (IBR) system depends on the number of images and the amount of geometry information used. In this paper, we propose the layered lumigraph representation that is configured for optimized rendering performance given the rendering platform (e.g., processor speed, memory, etc.) and the output image resolution. The layered lumigraph is produced b...

Stereoscopic Pop-Up

I present a novel system for the segmentation of images with depth into a mesh-based layered representation. This layered representation can be used for synthesising new views of the scene, and to create effects which would otherwise be non-trivial to implement, such as camera pans and depth of field effects. My contributions are threefold. Firstly, my project builds on existing algorithms, in ...

Tiling Layered Depth Images

We present a system for modeling and real-time rendering of solid terrains. Using results from the field of tiling, we show how a global 3D texture can be computed for a 2D terrain using a small set of Layered Depth Images. We propose a new set of Wang tiles that are shown empirically to tile the plane without apparent periodic structure. Furthmore, we introduce a new imagebased data struture: ...

Mesh Generation from Layered Depth Images Using Isosurface Raycasting

This paper presents an approach for the fast generation of meshes from Layered Depth Images (LDI), a representation that is independent of the underlying data structure and widely used in image-based rendering. LDIs can be quickly generated from high-quality, yet computationally expensive isosurface raycasters that are available for a wide range of different types of data. We propose a fast tec...
